Dynamic Leverage is a term I invented for a very powerful success tool: measurement!

How great it would be to be able to measure your success and plot it on your path, like following a chart. Imagine installing a clear signal system, like radar or GPS, that gave you a positive electronic “ping” every time you moved towards your goal and a decisive “honk!” every time your strayed off your path!

Well you can do that. All successful people do it in some form or other. All dreamers, who hang around on life’s edges and never really get committed and achieve what they want, fail at this major requirement.

You are not going anywhere if you are not moving. You are not moving if nothing changes. If things do change, just measure what and by how much.

I think without even any other tool for success, you’d know what to do! Like a voyager out in the wide world, you’d cast around for a sign you were facing the right way and then proceed in that direction. As the evidence built up that this was indeed the correct route, you be more determined and more focused.

If the signs were that this wasn’t the right direction after all, then you would alter course until you did get the right feedback. Then try that direction. And so on…

I can’t think of any other way explore new territory, the oceans, or proceed across the open landscape than this. All travelers employ some form of this process of “route finding”.

But since your dream is not usually a physical trek but a metaphorical journey towards some desired achievement, you’ve got to set up signals.

We call these indicators. Forward looking indicators we call leading indicators; those which tell you where you have been are called trailing indicators. Obviously the forward looking indicators are the most important. They tell you where you are going.

Without these you’d be as blind and in just as much trouble as someone driving a car with the windscreen blanked off!

Yet people do it all the time! No wonder they fail.

Can you begin to see why I call this dynamic leverage? It comes from movement and gives the equivalent of leverage. A lever, remember, is something that expands the power of what you do into something much greater. Greek mathematician, engineer and inventor Archimedes is supposed to have said “give me a big enough lever and I can move the earth”. He was right. His only problem would be finding a big enough lever and something to rest it against.

Modern US philosopher Buckminster Fuller also followed this leverage idea with what he called “lever points”. His theme was that a number of small points against which to push would give you an enormous amount of power. It multiplies itself.

Hydraulics operate on a similar scaling-up principle. A one inch wide piston pushing oil into a slave cylinder 50 times bigger will give you fifty times the lifting force. That’s how jacks and other equipment move such huge weights. The only “catch” is that you have to push the small piston fifty times further!

So a lever is the way you get more out than you put in. It’s not quite true that happens, but that’s what it feels like. What happens is that with the right set up and a small amount of effort, you can shift huge things.

The key words here are: with the right set up.

You need to install a system that will give you leverage.

Measuring success is leverage because you can throw away all wasted and insignificant effort and end up with only successful effort. You stop wasting time casting around for “solutions” and instead forge ahead very fast in the direction you want to go.

Internet marketers are a group of people who use this measuring leverage with uncanny power—at least the successful ones do. They can test an ad on the Internet and know within one or two hours that it works or does not work. Either result is good: something is being learned.

A poor performing ad is pulled or changed; a well-performing ad is also changed, to find some better wording that works even better. By the end of the day you could have a winner on your hands, knowing that it returns 2 dollars for every dollar spent.

In which case you can quickly get very rich by spending as fast as you can go in that direction. Buy more and more ads. Keep testing, keep listening for the pings and as soon as you get a “honk” pull the ad or change it.

Leverage!

I can tell you about good ways to use measurement to increase your success leverage in my “Secrets Of Unstoppable Success” tutorials.

As times get harder and the margins for error get less and less, you need dynamic leverage more than ever.

Sign up for “Secrets Of Unstoppable Success” and it will pay for itself in no time, just with this one tutorial. But there are 11 other sections plus lots of good bonuses.

What are you waiting for? “Ping”, this is the way to go forward!

I just got lazy here and posted one of Perry Marshall’s emails. I’ve left his link (not my affiliate link) as a token. He makes a good point we should all bear in mind.

In the late ’80s, an infomercial was shot for a product that everybody *should* have: a video designed to help parents talk to their teenagers about drugs.

It was such an appealing project that everyone wanted to help with it. It was hosted by Nancy Reagan; it was nothing less than a beautifully-produced, inspiring infomercial about making America a better place for kids.

They bought the airtime and ran the show. Guess how many orders they got?

Dan Kennedy, who helped write the script, reports:

Zero.

Nobody wanted to buy a video about talking to their kids about drugs. Nancy Reagan couldn’t convince ‘em, Hollywood couldn’t convince them, and a team of professional copywriters couldn’t convince ‘em.

Why?

Because it was prevention, not cure. It was too easy to think, “I’m going to mention this to the next-door neighbors, because THEIR son is waaaay out of control.

My kids would never take drugs.”

It’s hard to sell virtue and goodness in and of itself.

That’s why there are so many novels about murder, mayhem, lust, betrayal and hell, and so few about goodness, hope, utopia and heaven.

I’m not degrading the goodness of prevention. But if you want to sell it, it’s much easier to sell it as part of a cure than trying to convince someone who’s never had the problem in the first place.

I like carpet-cleaning expert Joe Polish’s view of this.

He insists that however hard you trumpet the fact that you can kill carpet mites and take toxins and allergens out of your house, the real reason that Suzy Jones calls a carpet cleaner is that she’s got company coming and she doesn’t want her friends to see the spot where Uncle Ned puked.

So Suzy’s going to have the carpet cleaned before the party, not after. After would actually be prevention.

Before is cure.

To Your Success,

One thing that’s good about being on a successful person’s list is you can see what works and what doesn’t. It may be tempting to unsubscribe – but don’t!

Forget about seeing yourself as the sales “target” and be a student. Watch what the guru sells, how he sells it and so on.

Put the emails in a swipe file and copy them, slightly modified, for your own use.

I learned that from being on Keith Wellman’s list. He bombards me with stuff (almost daily). I don’t buy it all, of course. In my beginner days I would just unsubscribe and say “stop sending me all those emails…” Now I’m pleased to be getting such an education!

Something else this taught me: Wellman doesn’t make all his $millions creating his own products. He’s an affiliate for dozens of other people. His Every Day Wealth Team have it down to a fine art. So when he gives you advice, like “This is what I do…” it’s smart to follow it!

Of course, you need to grow a list! Better go to:
